Yes, S. boulardii is effective in the treatment of all type of acute diarrhea, including the diarrhea caused by rotavirus as explained by the mode of action. In practice, the cause of diarrhea is rarely determined; that is the reason why no study has been performed specifically in patients suffering from diarrhea caused only by rotavirus. Nevertheless, in the Kurugol study, the cause of diarrhea in children was investigated and showed 80 % of the diagnosed diarrheas were due to rotavirus. In this study, patients treated with S. boulardii and ORS had a significant reduction of duration of diarrhea (25%) whether due to rotavirus or other type of pathogen.[1]
