Consult the package insert. The dosage is based on clinical trial-results where S. boulardii was investigated in children:
– Treatment of acute diarrhea from 400 to 500 mg/d and ORS.
– Prevention of Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea (AAD) 500 mg/d.
– Prevention of recurrence of Clostridium difficile diarrhea 1 g/d.

Take S. boulardii twice a day as demonstrated in clinical trials. See package insert.

Consult the package insert. Ideally, to prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea, S. boulardii treatment should be initiated at the same time as antibiotics and for the same duration as antibiotics (as demonstrated in clinical trials).

The mean duration of S. boulardii treatment depends on the indication:

  • Treatment of acute diarrhea: 5 days (minimum of 3 days).
  • Prevention of AAD: duration of antibiotic therapy.
  • Prevention of recurrence of Clostridium difficile diarrhea: 1 month.

There is no maximum duration of treatment. In clinical trials the longest duration was up to 6 months for the prevention of Crohn's disease relapse[1]. The standard duration of treatment for:

  • Acute diarrhea: 5 days.
  • Prevention of AAD: duration of antibiotic therapy.
  • Prevention of recurrence of Clostridium difficile diarrhea: 1 month.
