To date there is no clinical evidence for using a combination of probiotics. The effect of the combination has never been investigated and we cannot know the synergistic or antagonistic effect of the combination of probiotics. Various clinical trials[1] have demonstrated that S. boulardii alone is an effective anti-diarrheal agent to treat and prevent diarrhea. S. boulardii is a symptomatic and an etiological treatment. Therefore the ESPGHAN guidelines recommend treating the acute diarrhea of children with ORS and S. boulardii as a single probiotic.[2]
